44. Beginning Crosswords

picclue.jpgYou’re never too young to start solving crosswords. That’s the premise behind Picture Clue Crosswords (8×10, $3.95, new today). The puzzles are for beginning solvers, but they’re set up just like adult crosswords with consistent grid sizes, themes, and picture clues in Across and Down columns.

The book’s 20 puzzles include some twists: 5 have a what doesn’t belong feature; 2 have full-page clue scenes; and 2 have mystery themes. [CLICK HERE] for more info. Click on the mini-size puzzle sample below to download it.

  1. Orange says:

Cha-ching! Just showed this to Ben and he was instantly captivated, so the book’s in my Amazon cart now. He envisions doing these crosswords and then going to a miniature crossword tournament—”just like Mommy.”

(The fact that he wants to spell 1-Down BRADE shows that we have a little work to do.)

  2. Patrick Merrell says:

Cool! That perked up my morning, knowing there’s one kid out there who may soon be having some fun with it. Go, Ben!

  3. Jay says:

Two kids! Emma’s about to get one, too. Way fun. Thanks!

  4. Patrick Merrell says:

Wow, cool x 2! I turned in this book a year ago, so the thought of someone actually using it became a bit distant. Go, Emma!

  5. Jay says:

I figure this is a perfect time to start her on the road toward challenging Tyler someday…

  6. Jay says:

The book arrived yesterday. I gave it to Emma. I haven’t seen it since, but two of my best pencils have disappeared.

When I asked this morning, she said “I really like it, Mommy, but you have your own puzzles so I don’t want to share it”.

    So there.

  7. Patrick Merrell says:

Thanks for the report! Glad to hear Emma is hording the fun.

  8. Orange says:

I still haven’t added another $21.05 of Amazon merchandise to my cart to qualify for free shipping…

  9. Patrick Merrell says:

Good, Orange. The tension and anticipation will continue to mount for Ben. When the book finally does arrive, there’ll be no stopping him.

  10. Orange says:

Yeah. I’m going to make the book go viral so he’s whipped into a frenzy of excitement for weeks before the book arrives.
